在东海岛南部邻海边,“恒农兴邦 种业芯片”八个蓝色大字十分醒目,这里就是国家“863”计划海水养殖种子工程南方基地。基地占地300多亩,主要从事水产动物良种选育、种苗繁育、养殖模式、生物饵料开发与营养与饲料研究等研究工作。

2002年,经科技部立项,广东恒兴集团有限公司在湛江投资建设了国家863计划海水养殖种子工程南方基地,开创了中国民营企业承担国家种业基地项目的先河,打造中国水产种业“芯”。2014年,基地被认定为“国家级南美白对虾良种场”。

南美白对虾,原产于南美洲热带海域,1988年由中国科学院海洋研究所首次从美国引入中国,目前是我国养殖规模最大的对虾品种。但是,由于南美白对虾是外来虾种,国内企业获取优质虾苗和亲虾的唯一方式就是从境外购买。要想打破南美白对虾发展瓶颈,必须从品种上进行改良或自主研发。

恒兴与中山大学合作开展南美白对虾育种工作取得突破,国内首个国家认定的南美白对虾抗病品种“中兴1号”诞生在国家863计划海水养殖种子工程南方基地。2011年,“中兴1号”通过国审。

恒兴采取多种经营方式,依托恒兴子公司和合作单位,开展苗科联动,扩大自主选育对虾品种的市场占有率和影响力,目前形成了湛江、福建、河北三个主要生产区域。

恒兴研究院副院长李色东介绍,恒兴每年推广“中兴1号”亲虾约5万对,辐射华南、华中、华北等大部分对虾主产区,未来还将选育抗病性强、生长快、适应高盐度生长的品种。此外,恒兴主持制定了《凡纳滨对虾育苗技术规范》。

湛江是水产种业大市,2020年南美白对虾育苗1387亿尾。2022年,《关于推动湛江市水产产业高质量发展意见》明确提出,打造全球一流的水产良种繁育供应基地和水产种质资源养护体系。

目前,恒兴正在扩建育种中心,育种中心占地70亩,新建生物安保、选育设施等,将大幅提升优质种虾的产能。此外,恒兴还牵头整合行业龙头企业的优势资源,构建创新联合体,打造南美白对虾联合育种平台。该平台于2017年成立,目前已选育出南美白对虾1000多个家系。
