BYD will build an electric vehicle factory in Thailand

Xinhua News Agency, Bangkok, September 8th (Reporter Song Yu Guo Xinhui) BYD Automobile Thailand Co., Ltd. signed land purchase agreement with Thailand WHA Weihua Industrial Park on the 8th to build an electric vehicle factory in Thailand, with a planned annual output of 150,000 units.

According to reports, the project is located in Luoyong House in Thailand and covers an area of ​​about 96 hectares in the Eastern Economic Corridor Special Economic Zone. The factory plans to be put into production in 2024. The production of electric vehicles will be put on the Thailand market, while radiating the surrounding ASEAN countries and other regions.

Liu Xueliang, general manager of BYD Asia Pacific Automobile Sales Division, said at the signing ceremony that BYD came to Thailand. In addition to selling automotive products, he also hoped to use many years of technical experience to contribute to the overall development of Thailand's new energy industry.

The person in charge of the WHA Weihua Industrial Park said that BYD's construction of an electric vehicle factory in Thailand will promote the electrification of Thailand's automotive industry, and will also help the country's vision of building a global electric vehicle manufacturing center. The Thai government plans to increase the country's electric vehicle output to 30%of the total vehicle output until 2030.

Due to the industrial chain and geographical advantages, Thailand has always been the main automotive production base in Southeast Asia. China ’s SAIC MG and Great Wall Motors have been put into production in Thailand. According to data from the Thai Automobile Association, the proportion of Chinese brands in Thailand's pure electric vehicle market in 2021 accounted for about 90 %.
