"Peacock Flying Southeast" (the original title "Ancient Poems for Jiao Zhongqing's Wife") is the first narrative poem in the history of Chinese literature. Overseas translations started earlier

In the 16th century, after the Western people represented by missionaries came to China, Western translations of ancient Chinese books began to appear. As an important window for understanding Chinese culture, Chinese literature has always been valued by Chinese scholars. Since the 20th century, "Peacock Flying Southeast" has been translated into English many times by Western scholars. Among them, British Sinologist Arthur Welley first translated "Peacock Southeast" into English to Western countries. In 1946, George Allen and Aungwin Publishing House published a book "Selection of Chinese Poetry" compiled by Weli. This book contains its translation of "Peacock Southeast Fly". The translation is very popular with English readers, and has been published 7 times in the past 40 years. In 2000, "Selection of Chinese Poetry" was published again by Doffo Publishing House in Minola City, Aiho, USA. Arthur Welley was committed to the study of sinology culture and published a large number of translations. His translation "Peacock Flying Southeast" is quite representative, and it has some inspiration for subsequent foreign translations.

The contributor of the second translation in the middle of the 20th century was Fu Leshan, Australian sinologist. In 1966, British Sinologist Arthur Welley died. In 2000, the book "Chinese Classical Literature and British Translation Collection" compiled by British sinologist Min Ford and Chinese writer Liu Shaoming once again included its translation of "Peacock Southeast Fly". In 1995, "Selection of Chinese Love Poems: Selection of Chinese Love Poems: Yutai Xin Yong" compiled by American sinologist Annie Bellele was published by Penguin Publishing House in London, England, and also included his translation of "Jiao Zhongqing Wife".

The first English translation of the 21st century came from British scholar Paul White, and its translation "Peacock Flying Southeast" was published by New World Press in 2003.
