India's "Outlook" magazine website on August 23rd, original title: China's so -called "spy ship" in Sri Lanka caused New Delhi to be vigilant. Does India respond to excessive reaction? In India, few people remembered that the Malaysia Rajapaksa government initially proposed the Hangban Tota project to India. Only after India refused, China took over the project. At that time, India's private sector was not interested in it, perhaps because of lack of professional knowledge. Today, India feels very disturbed by the Port of Hanba Tota at the "Yuanwang 5" of the Chinese scientific examination ship.

This worry has been growing over the past 20 years. Now, as China regards the "four-way mechanism" of the United States, Japan, India, and Australia, it is also a measure to curb China's military power in the Indian Ocean-Pacific, and the competition in the Indian Ocean is also intensifying. South Asian countries have been strongly attracted by these two Asian opponents. This is a good thing for many small neighbor countries in India, but occasionally they are also under tremendous pressure from both sides. For President Vikramazinha's government, China requesting a ship to stop at Hangban Tota this month is a difficult moment. The president has always been a loyal friend of India, and he initially asked China to postpone his visit. This move made China unhappy because it clearly knew that Colombo was under pressure from New Delhi.

The Chinese ship is one of nearly 60 foreign ships visiting the port of Sri Lanka every month. Many of these ships are from India, and this year alone, ships in France, Japan, Germany and Bangladesh stopped. In March of this year, the Indian Navy destroyer "Kim Nai" and the frigates "Tiger" both stopped in Colombo. In October last year, six warships of the Indian Navy Training Squadron visited the Port of Colombo and Ting Ke Maria at the same time.

Critics claimed that Vikramazinha yielded pressure on the Indian side. After being criticized by many parties, the Sri Lanka eventually allowed Chinese ships to enter Handon Tota. Some people in India were indignant, after all, the first time in the economic crisis of New Delhi in the Sri Lanka's economic crisis.

In fact, President Vicramaxinha and his government need both India and China, as well as as much countries as possible to help them stabilize the economy. All countries make their own strategic decisions. Therefore, as India does not want to be forced to make choices between the United States and its allies and Russia, Sri Lanka also hopes to maintain a good relationship with India and China. The country will do what they must do for their own interests.

A common view of India is that Sri Lanka fell to China during the administration of Mazinda Rajapaka. But this is just part of the facts. The relationship between SII (trade) was established as early as 1952. The "Miji Agreement" was signed during the reunification of Sri Lanka, and the opposition Sri Liberal Liberal Party also had a good relationship with China. From 2000 to 2010, with the growth of China's wealth and ambitions, Sri Lanka, as an island country near the Indian continent, attracted a lot of investment. In Sri Lanka's military operations in the "Tiger Organization", Beijing provided assistance to the Sri Lankan government, while India and several Western countries refused to assist at the time. Rajapaksa is grateful for China, and the relationship between the two countries is increasingly close.

In addition, among Sri Lanka bureaucratic bureaucracy and left -wing parties, many people believe that maintaining a good relationship with China is very important to balance New Delhi's overall political, cultural, and economic impact. People who do not like India have been armed and supported by Tamil for radical organizations. Many people do not trust India, thinking that Colombo needs Chinese options to maintain its strategic autonomy. (Author Sima Gu, translated by Qiao Heng) ▲
