Vice Foreign Minister of Russia: The United States requires restarting the "New Treatment of Strategic Weapon Treaty" to verify the "open provocations"

Xinhua News Agency, Moscow, August 9th (Reporter Zhao Bing) Risobakov, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia, said on the 9th that Russia recently received a notice from the United States to restart the "New Treatment of Strategic Weapon Treaty" to verify. It is essentially "public provocation."

The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs released Riabkov's response to the media on the official website on the 9th. He said that the United States proposed to implement an inspection in Russia in the next few days, which is a direct "inducement" that Russia temporarily withdraws relevant facilities from the inspection activity stipulated in the treaty. The Russian side urged the United States to give up actions that helpless the problem solving, continue to cooperate closely, and restart the verification activities specified by the treaty as soon as possible on the basis of reality and fairness, which will conform to the interests of both Russia and the United States.

Riabkov also said that since the beginning of 2020, due to the new crown epidemic, Russia and the United States agreed to suspend the inspection activity under the contract. In view of the current relationship between Russia and Western countries, there are more obstacles to the inspection activities stipulated in the treaty.

The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement on the 8th that Russia has notified the United States through diplomatic channels, deciding to temporarily withdraw from the facilities verification mechanism of the "New Treatment of Strategic Weapons" and withdraw relevant Russian facilities from the inspection activities stipulated in the treaty. The statement pointed out that because the United States implemented unilateral restrictions on Russia, the normal air traffic interruption between Russia and the United States, the United States and its allies were closed to the Russian aircraft. The "New Treatment of Strategic Weapons" was signed by the United States and Russia in 2010 and took effect on February 5, 2011, with a valid period of 10 years.
