Sources said Vicky Bowman and her husband were detained on Wednesday.

The source said that she and her husband were charged with the crime of migration and had been sent to Yongsheng Prison.Yongsheng Prison is a prison located in the suburbs of Yangon, known for its detaining political prisoners.

A British Embassy spokesman said: "We are concerned about a British woman's arrest in Myanmar. We are contacting local authorities and providing consular assistance."

The spokesman did not disclose the woman's name, but Reuters said the woman was Bowman.

Bowman served as the British Ambassador to Myanmar from 2002 to 2006 and lived in Myanmar for more than 30 years.At present, Bowman is a person in charge of the Myanmar Enterprise Responsibility Center.

Her husband is one of Myanmar's most famous artists and a senior political activist.
