Senior German government said on the 20th that Germany approved Sweden and Finland to join the North Atlantic Treaty at the summit next week. However, Germany still reached an agreement on "confidence".

NATO Summit will be held on the 29th and 30th in Madrid, the capital of Spain. Agence France -Presse quoted senior German governments to report that Sweden and Finland may not be able to join NATO quickly, but from a historical perspective, "if we still need a few weeks to reach an agreement, it is not a disaster."

Sweden and Finland officially submitted an application for joining NATO on May 18. According to the regulations, NATO must absorb new members under the premise of "unanimous consent" in 30 member states.

As a member of NATO, Turkey opposes Sweden and Finland to join, accusing the two countries of providing asylum for the Kurdish Workers' Party, and demanding the release of weapons for Turkey. The Kurdish Workers' Party was listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey and its allies. In order to change the idea of Turkey, Sweden and Finland had previously sent a delegation to negotiate with local officials in the Turkish capital Ankara, but they made little progress.

NATO Secretary -General, Yanz Stoltenberg, said last week that at this stage, it was impossible to give a timetable for Sweden and Finland to join NATO. NATO and various allies will consider Turkey's concerns carefully and strive to reach an agreement as soon as possible.

According to AFP, Sweden and Finland's joining NATO may be "delayed indefinitely" due to Turkey's opposition. (Liu Jiang)
