The European Council decided on the 23rd that the European Commission agreed to give the EU Commission's suggestions to the status of Ukraine and Moldova EU candidates.
The two -day EU Summer Summit opened on the 23rd in Brussels, Belgium. In a statement issued by the European Council that night, the European Council decided to give Ukraine and Moldova the EU candidate status, and at the same time asked the European Commission to report to the application of the applicant to the EU. Once all prescribed conditions are fully met, the council will decide to take the next step.
The statement also stated that once the EU Commission's opinion on Georgia's application is resolved, Georgia will get the status of the EU candidate.
The President of the European Council Michelle said on social media that day that this is a historic moment that marks a key step in Ukraine and Moldova on the road to the European Union.
Ukrainian President Zelei President Zeelianz issued a message on social media on the 23rd to welcome the EU's status to the EU candidate for the EU. He said that this is the "unique and historic moment of Ukraine" and "the future of Ukraine in the EU."
After Russia launched a special military operation in February this year, Ukraine immediately launched a procedure for applying for joining the European Union and officially submitted the application on February 28. Moldova and Georgia also submitted an application to the EU on March 3. On June 17, the European Commission suggested to give Ukraine and Moldova's EU candidate status. At the same time, Georgia still needs to make some progress before obtaining the status of the EU candidate.
At present, EU candidates also include Albania, North Malaysia, Heishan, Serbia and Turkey. The above -mentioned five countries have been waiting for many years and have not yet become a formal member of the European Union.
