Minister of Science and Technology Wang Zhigang attended the opening ceremony of basic science to promote sustainable development of the international year

At 4 pm on July 8, 2022, Beijing time, Basic Science promoted the opening of the UNESCO headquarters at the UNESCO headquarters in Paris. The Minister of Science and Technology Wang Zhigang attended the opening ceremony and spoke at the high -level round table. The 77th UN General Assembly chairman Joe Bao Kles, the deputy director of UNESCO, Qu Xing, and UNESCO Natural Science Assistant Director Director Samila Naer Beadle, and others.

At the high -level round table meeting, Minister Wang Zhigang discussed the role of basic science in decision -making with the Minister of Science and Technology and 2 Nobel Prize winners of the 6 countries and made a special speech. Wang Zhigang said that the effectiveness of continuous improvement of basic research and effectively promoting basic research and development, we must deal with two relationships. The first is the relationship between goal -oriented and free exploration; the other is to stabilize the relationship between support and competitive support in terms of funding.

Wang Zhigang pointed out that basic research focuses on the exploration, discovery, and summary of new principles, new laws, new methods, and new processes. Often the government should form funding on the basis of non -consensus. Such a funding mechanism is difficult to design, and it is uncertain and unknown. This funding mechanism also faces a challenge to the unity and personalization of different disciplines and scientific issues.

Wang Zhigang emphasized that the main body of scientific research activities is scientists, and scientists use their own scientific research results to speak, how to achieve a benign process of scientists and their own scientific research results forming positive iteration and continuous circulation, which is one of the tasks of government funding basic research.

After the meeting, Minister Wang Zhigang and the chairman of the 77th UN General Assembly went online. The two sides exchanged their opinions on issues such as multilateral technology innovation cooperation under the United Nations framework, and unanimously emphasized that technology should play a more important role in the process of cope with global challenges and achieve sustainable development goals.

In December 2021, the 76th UN General Assembly passed a resolution and approved the 2022 as "basic science to promote sustainable development international year", which aims to emphasize the importance of basic science in promoting sustainable development. The international year's event will be organized in the global, regional and national level from July 2022 to June 2023.
