This cultural relic was judged to return!

On the morning of July 19, 2022, the Fujian Provincial Higher People's Court followed the law to the appellant OSCAR VAN OVEREEM (transliteration: Oscar Van Owrem, hereinafter referred to as "Oscar"). On December 14, 1995, the Buddha statue was stolen.

Oscar advocated that in 1996, he bought the Buddha statue involved in the case in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, but did not provide the corresponding transaction voucher for the source of the Buddha statue. In March 2015, the Buddha statue was allowed to exhibition at the Hungarian Natural Science Museum at the Hungarian Natural Science Museum after being stolen for nearly 20 years.

A trial order returned

The case was officially filed on December 11, 2015, and successfully sent the respondent to the defendant of the Netherlands through international judicial assistance procedures.

The case was tried twice on July 26, 2018 and October 12, 2018, and the facts of the case were found.

On the afternoon of December 4, 2020, the Intermediate People's Court of Sanming City, Fujian Province ordered the defendant Oscar Van Owrem to give the plaintiff from the Yangchun Villagers Committee of Wushan Township, Datian County, Fujian Province within 30 days from the date of effectiveness. The committee returned the case and was involved in the "Zhang Gong ancestor" and sat in the Buddha statue.
