On July 14, 2017, the Court of Amsterdam in the Netherlands held the first hearing on the case. The plaintiff was attended by the Agent Lawyer Group commissioned by Fujian Villagers. The defendant Van Overm himself attended the hearing with the defense lawyer. According to the legal procedures of the Netherlands, the judge listened to the statement of the confesses at the hearing and raised relevant issues, but did not make a decision on the spot.

On the morning of July 26, 2018, the Sanming Intermediate People's Court opened the court and tried the "Zhang Gong ancestor" to sit in the pursuit of the Buddha. On December 4, 2020, the Sanming Intermediate People's Court announced the case publicly and ordered the defendant Oscar Van Owrem to return the case to the plaintiff Yangchun Villagers Committee and the Dongpu Villagers' Committee within 30 days from the date of effectiveness.
