The standard was first released in 2000, and the first revision in 2005 supported the needs of Chinese information processing and exchange in my country.

The mandatory national standards for the new version of "Information Technology Chinese Coding Character" will be officially implemented on August 1, 2023. A total of 87,887 Chinese characters will be included, an increase of more than 17,000 rare Chinese characters from the previous version.
