After the Austrian government held an emergency meeting, a statement stated that it would cooperate with Austrian's largest power supplier Victorian company to restart a coal power plant located in the southern city of Merah.

The Austrian Ministry of Environment told the local media that the purpose was to use coal to generate electricity again in emergency situations, but the restart process may take several months.

The Meirah Coal Power Plant was shut down in the spring of 2020 and was the last coal power plant in Austria. The Austrian government has previously proposed to achieve clean energy energy supply by 2030.

Russia's Natural Gas Industry Co., Ltd. has recently reduced its gas supply to Europe through the "Beixi-1" natural gas pipeline. Austrian National Petroleum Corporation said on the 16th that Russia has informed that the amount of gas supply will be reduced.
