[Global Times Comprehensive Report] A few days ago, there was a shortage of employees in the New Zealand hotel industry. Some hotels began to provide benefits such as vouchers or free drinks for guests who cleaned their rooms. According to the New Zealand Herald report on the 2nd, James Du Lan, a strategic director of the New Zealand Hotel Industry Association, said that during the year after the epidemic, the country's hotel industry lost more than half of the labor force, and the current hotel junior employees were seriously short. Some hotels have reduced daily cleaning work from once a day to every three days, and temporarily shut down the recreational facilities such as spa.

In addition to the hotel industry, New Zealand's medical and construction industry also faces the same problem. In order to alleviate employee shortage, the New Zealand government announced in May this year to simplify immigration procedures. However, the new visa certification program depends on a system called Adept, but the system has not been stable enough. From the beginning of March to June 17, the Immigration Department received about 74,000 applications for residence visa in the second stage, but only 3,900 applications were processed. Some people in the hotel industry said that if they cannot recruit suitable employees as soon as possible, the industry may face greater blows. (Sun Yumeng)
