2022 Basic Science Promotion Sustainable Development International Year opening

On July 8th, 2022 Basic Science Promoting the International Year of the International (Internal Year of Basic Sciences for Sustainable Development (Basic Science International Year) was grandly opened in Paris's UNESCO headquarters.

The Chinese Academy of Sciences is the only domestic guidance committee and the counseling committee of my country. The leaders and academician experts of President Hou Jianguo and other academicians have recorded videos for the opening of the international year. Hou Jianguo said that the major achievements of basic science can often bring profound changes in productivity and great progress in society. Many common challenges facing human society need more scientific and technological support, and pay attention to basic scientific research, which is to care about human future development. The Chinese Academy of Sciences sincerely hopes that through this basic science and international annual activity, strengthen communication and exchanges with scientists around the world, work with the global science and technology community, and effectively contribute to basic science to promote the sustainable development of global sustainable development.

The UNESCO Natural Science Assistant Director-General Shamila Nair-Bedouelle chaired the opening ceremony. The chairman of the International Year Guidance Commission and the Chairman of the UNESCO Basic Science Planning Committee of the International Year delivered a speech respectively.
