Accurately predict more than 100 deaths, the furry death died this year

The cat named Oscar just woke up and opened one eye to scan his territory. It looked from the doctor's table to the two corridors of the nursing home, and the east and west side were quiet.

It slowly got up and started stretching, leaned down to pull up the hips high, then moved forward, and then sat down to consider where to start today's "inspection".

If Oscar stops when a room is found and actively leaning against the resident, the nurse will worry that the death will come within a few hours, and immediately inform the residents of the loved ones to give them the opportunity to make a final farewell.

After accurately predicting more than a hundred deaths, this year, Oscar died of illness.

It sniffed, jumped out of bed and left the room

"not today"

The nursing home is near the highway, and it is a three -story floor. The third floor is dedicated to care for dementia, with a total of 41 rooms. Pets are allowed to visit and live, and six cats are adopted in 2005. Oscar is one of them.

In the three -story corridor, Ms. P was pushing a helper from a distance. She has lived here for three years, and she can't remember her family, even if they come to visit her almost every day. The situation of residents in other rooms is similar. Most of them are end -stage patients in Alzheimer's disease and Parkinson disease.

She goes back and forth aimlessly every day. At this time, the Oscar on the table is getting closer and closer, but Ms. P didn't notice it at all, just murmured to talk to herself.

Oscar stared at her uneasily, and made a softsing sound when she passed, which was the warning "ignorant of me." Oscar is usually not relatives, and often uses this sound to keep people away from it.

She walked away along the corridor, and Oscar relaxed. Ms. P is less than time, and it doesn't want to do anything to her now.

Oscar jumped off the table, drank water, and hurriedly ate something. It stretched out a lazy waist and began to inspect, deciding to start from the corridor on the west side. Oscar went to the end of the 310 room at the end, the door was closed, and it sat down and waited quietly.

After 25 minutes, the door finally opened, and a nurse came out holding a dirty sheet. "Hello, Oscar", she said, "Do you want to enter the room?" Oscar waited for her to come out and then entered the room, there were two people in it.

Ms. T lay on the bed and slept on the wall, facing the wall. Her body was thin and she hadn't spoken for several days. Her daughter was sitting next to the book, and said enthusiastically, "Hello, Oscar. How are you today?"

Oscar ignored the woman and jumped to the bed. It observes Ms. T. She has obviously entered the final stage of the disease, and her breathing is laborious. It sniffed the air, finally glanced at Ms. T, and then jumped out of bed and left the room quickly.

not today.

Mother tells the child

"It will help my grandmother to go to heaven"

Oscar returned to the corridor and walked into Room 313. Ms. K was resting quietly on the bed, her breathing was smooth but very shallow. She was surrounded by photos of her grandchildren, but in addition to these souvenirs, she was alone. Oscar jumped into her bed and sniffed the air here. It was a little hesitant, turned twice, and finally curled up by Ms. K.

An hour has passed, Oscar is waiting. A nurse walked into the room to check the patient. She stopped and noticed the appearance of Oscar. So she hurriedly left the room, took Ms. K's medical records from the medical records, and started calling.

In less than half an hour, relatives began to arrive, ready to be the last guardianship. Oscar hasn't moved away, but snoring, gently stuning Ms. K with his nose.

Ms. K's grandson asked her mother: "What is this cat doing here?" The mother held back her tears and told him: "It helps his grandmother to go to heaven."

After 30 minutes, Ms. K ended her last breath. Oscar sat up, looked at the four weeks, and then left the room quickly. The sad family hardly noticed its departure.

Oscar returned to the table and curled up, and its inspection was completed. In these few hours, the three floors of the nursing home will not die anymore, and it can also sleep at peace in peace. If you are lucky, you can feel the crazy of cat mint after waking up.

After getting cat mint last time, Oscar and another cat Maya ran around the table. It seemed to be able to break the neck at any time. They still stopped and rolled from time to time, and their limbs waved in the air. At that time, the residents and medical staff of the nursing home were gathered around. Dr. David Dosa, an elderly patient, also squeezed into the crowd.

He has always felt that Oscar is a smart and serious creature, holding the ultimate answer, and published an article "One Day of the Oscar Cat" on the "New England Medical Journal" (NEJM), so that the whole world knows its special special. Here is inspired by many movies and books.

And now, this furry death is chasing his tail like crazy ...

The appearance of time is just happening

Sometimes its prediction is more accurate than a doctor

Although I often sleep at work and occasionally music, Oscar every day, I check in a house like a doctor and a nurse, enter each room on the third floor of the nursing home to observe the sniffing patient, and find and accompany it to accompany the people who are about to die.

The staff noticed half a year after the Oscar came to the nursing home that death always followed it. After repeated verification of 25 times, they were convinced that they should notify the patient's family after making a choice.

In the eyes of Dr. Joan Teno in the nursing home, Dr. Oscarbie is better at predicting death. Dr. Tuo said that once she noticed that a female patient did not eat and had difficulty breathing, and the skin color of her legs began to turn blue. These signs usually meant that death was approaching. However, Oscar was unwilling to stay in that room at the time, and she thought its prediction was about to be broken. Facts have proved that Dr. Trano's predictions have been in advance for about 10 hours, and Oscar appears at the patient's bed at the patient's bed at only two hours.

At the same time as helping patients, Oscar himself has also become a "patient" in the nursing home. It was in November 2013. It had a heart stopped due to a serious allergic reaction, but the veterinarian rescued it. After a few months of recuperation, Oscar resumed health and started its own "work." As of 2015, it is believed that it has predicted at least 100 deaths.

The people who have served in Oscar are mainly patients' loved ones. They usually thank it for the last company of patients and the opportunity for farewell reserved in advance, which comforts them. However, some people want to not enter the room when the patient dies. If the staff closes the door in advance, Oscar will pace and go back and forth at the door, and even walk into the room next door, trying to grab a road on the wall. Whenever at this time, the staff can only temporarily take it away from the nursing home.

Knowing death in advance is a chance to say goodbye for loved ones, and it may be panic to those who are about to die. However, most people are not paying attention to the surrounding environment. When Oscar comes to visit, they are already in the final stage. They may not know where it is, nor will they realize that death is coming. Besides, some people will be lonely, and Oscar is the only company at that time.

To this end, a local caring agency awarded an Oscar to a commemorative card: "In order to recognize his compassionate ending care, this commemorative card was awarded the Oscar cat."

How does Oscar predict death?

No one can determine whether Oscar's behavior is scientific and how to explain.

Dr. Dosa and Tino believe that it may be the smell or other chemicals that humans are about to die when they are about to die, or what it reads from the actions of a doctor and nurse. Some diseases do have a special smell. For example, when diabetic keto acid poisoning occurs, the patient's breathing will have a bad smell of apple. Perhaps the death itself has a smell, but humans cannot notice it.

Some animal experts also put forward assumptions on Oscar's behavior. In addition to smelling the unique smell of death, it may also be that it noticed that the room became quiet, and learned to stay in a room with this signal the day after tomorrow.

Some people think that Oscar does not have the ability to predict death at all, which is a "confirmation deviation" phenomenon. It means that its appearance has nothing to do with death, but people selectively remember the examples that happened one after another, ignoring those unrelated stays.

Regardless of the conclusion, doctors have not found the secret to predict the accurate death time. Although research can count the risk of the entire crowd, doctors cannot make precise judgments for specific individuals. Some studies have recorded the doctor's judgment of whether the patient will die within 72 hours. The results show that the accuracy rate of doctors is 65%to 73%, which is equivalent to judging three mistakes in three times.

Unfortunately, Oscar's forecast stops on February 22, 2022, and it always takes away its secrets. This time, Oscar did not notice that death was coming, but friends spent the last moment with it, just like the more than a hundred companions it provided by people in 17 years.
