Chinese representatives urge the Security Council to adjust the authorization of the United Nations Haiti Comprehensive Office

Zhang Jun said that Haiti has always been one of the most complicated and unsolvable challenges in the Security Council's agenda. The United Nations began to intervene in the situation of Haiti in the early 1990s. Nowadays, the situation in Haiti not only does not improve, but has fallen into a more serious crisis. Last October, under the joint promotion of other members of the China and the Security Council, the Security Council asked the Secretary -General of the United Nations to evaluate the authorization of the Lianhai Office based on the actual situation of the sea land to provide a reference for the Security Council's targeted enhancement. For nine months, the national institutions of Haiti have been paralyzed, most of the regions have fallen into a safe vacuum, and the violent activities of gangsters have become more rampant. The economic and humanistic situation has deteriorated freely. This fully shows that the strategic assessment and fundamental adjustment of the Lianhai Office is imperative. In response to the draft of the Lianhai Office's authorized post -decision resolution, China put forward specific, reasonable and feasible opinions on promoting political processes, improving police capabilities, cracking down on illegal weapons and capital flow, and strengthening port management. China welcomes many suggestions for Chinese proposals to adopt the draft resolution, and the resolution just passed is generally a step in the correct direction.

Zhang Jun said that illegal weapons smuggling and flooding are the root causes of gangsters violent activities. China has urged countries to effectively strengthen weapons export control and prevent illegal weapons from flowing into Haiti gangsters. China will also work with related countries to continue to promote the Security Council to make greater efforts in this direction.
