According to a paper published online on September 8th, "Communication -Earth and the Environment", sustainable seafood can provide more nutrients for humans than beef, pork and chicken, while reducing greenhouse gas emissions. These discoveries show that to promote alternative to other animal proteins with policies, or can improve future food safety and help cope with climate change.

In order to meet the growth of population size, global human diet needs to reduce climate footprints while more nutritious. It is known that seafood is a good source of protein, fatty acids, vitamins and minerals. Earlier research showed that using seafood instead of meat in the diet has potential environmental benefits. However, the future diet strategies trying to reduce climate emissions usually promote the "green" diet of plants, ignoring the seafood -based "blue" diet potential.

Peter Tyedmers, the University of Harry Fax, Canada, Elinor Hallstrom and colleagues in the Gothenburg Research Institute, Sweden, and colleagues. From the large -scale sources of fishery and aquaculture in 2015, the world's important wild catching and breeding sources of seafood products analyzed Nutritional density and climate impact.

They found that salmon, catfish, catfish and catfish fished in the wild, as well as breeding mussels and oysters, have the lowest climate impact under the same nutritional value. Among the analysis of seafood, half of the nutritional density is higher than beef, pork and chicken, while greenhouse gas emissions are lower than. The differences in production and capture methods will bring great differences on the climate impact of each species. The author suggested that in order to further reduce emissions, fisheries should adopt energy -saving and efficient fishing technology to rebuild the depleted population. At the same time, they breed more fish and shellfish that have not been eaten, and find more sources of fish feed for climate -friendly.

This study focuses on greenhouse gas emissions rather than the potential impact of the ecosystem, but these discoveries still highlight the possibility of sustainable and nutritious food sources that are beneficial to the climate of seafood. Researchers believe that policies to help respond to climate change and poor diet should promote sustainable seafood consumption.
