The largest Mars meteorite on the earth has been exhibited for the first time.

This meteorite weighs 14.5 kg and the widest point is 25 cm. On September 1, 2021, it was unveiled at the Mineral Gem Museum of the Bessel Burin on Wednesday. The museum also collects about 6,000 off -ground meteorites, which contains the largest lunar rocks on the earth and the oldest fire meteorite formed in a micro -across star volcano activity in the early solar system.

"Mars rocks can fall into the earth in the form of meteorites." Karl Ete, Director of the Institute of Meteorological Research, New Mexico, introduced to "Life Science".

The Mars rock named TaoDenni 002 is "the largest unsatisfactory complete Mars meteorite on the earth so far," Eji said. He participated in confirming that the rock really came from the red planet.

At the same time, Eji also mentioned that there were about 300 Mars rocks on the earth, and the total weight was about 227 kg. However, collectors often break them to sell them alone. Therefore, the actual number of Mars meteorites on the planet is between 100 and 150 yuan.

After the strong impact pops up the rocks from Mars, they drift in space until they finally cross and fall with the earth's orbit.

A meteorite hunter found TaoDenni 002 near a desert salt mine in Mali, West Africa. Later, the world-renowned meteorite merchant Darril Pitt acquired it in April 2021 for the Maine Mineral Gem Museum Museum. Aggi mentioned that the fall of this meteorite did not have a witness report, but because of its good preservation, it may have fallen in the past few hundred years.

After getting this meteorite, Pitt sent a small rock sample to Aiji to confirm its source.

Aiji said that Martian rocks have special chemical characteristics, and the minerals and elements in TaoDenni 002 fully match the known Mars minerals.

"It is a cigar stone, which is the main type of Mars meteorite. It contains olives, pyroxyl, and long stones such as pyroxyl and vibrations," said Aiji. These minerals were formed in the Martian impact and then bounced to space.

The composition of meteorites often shows the cause of the formation. "It is likely to form a volcanic outbreak on Mars more than 100 million years ago."

"In fact, there may be larger Mars rocks on the earth that have not been discovered." Aiji said. "They may be buried under the Sahara desert, or in the ice layer of Antarctica, or on the bottom of the sea."

Meteorites are solid fragments such as comets, asteroids or meteors. It originated from outer space and survived in the planet or satellite atmosphere. When primitive rocks enter the atmosphere, various factors, such as friction, pressure, and chemicals with the atmosphere, make it warm up and radiate energy outward. Then it became a meteor to form a fireball. Astronomers usually call the brightest meteor as "fire meteor". Once it reaches the larger planet surface, the meteor becomes a meteorite. The size of the meteorite is very different. For geologists, meteorites are a kind of external rock that is large enough to form a impact pit [2].

The meteorites that were observed and recycled when they were hit by the atmosphere were called meteorite falling incidents. The others are called meteorite discovery events. As of August 2018, about 1412 meteorites that fell into the fall were collected by global collectors [3]. As of July 2021, there were more than 6,5780 cases of investigated meteorites. [4].

Traditionally divided meteorites into three categories: stone meteorite, mainly composed of silicate minerals; iron meteorite, mainly composed of iron nickel; stone iron meteorite contains a large amount of metal and rock ingredients. According to the structure of meteorites, chemistry and isotopes, and mineral classification methods are divided into several groups. Meteorites less than 2 mm are classified as miniature meteorites. Outblowing meteorites have been found on the moon and Mars [5] [6] [7].
