The Ministry of Health, the United States, announced on the 27th that the US Navy was fined 8.8 million US dollars, because the Navy repeatedly discharged sewage from Pearl Harbor-Hicham United Base to Hawaii waters.

In a press release, the Ministry of Health of Hawaii stated that the department recorded 766 U.S. Navy pollutants exceeding the standard emissions. The Hawaii wastewater treatment plants operated by the U.S. Naval Facilities Engineering Command from January 2020 to July 2022 were discharged. The Ministry of Health found 212 operations and maintenance records in this sewage plant.

The U.S. Navy has not responded to the Ministry of Health of Hawaii for the time being.

Carter Lin Huo, deputy minister of the state sanitation, said in a statement: "The Navy failed to properly operate and maintain the sewage treatment plant, which led to pollution in the Hawaii waters." Maintenance measures to prevent catastrophic accidents in sewage plants.

The Ministry of Health ordered the Navy to close the Hongshan loose fuel storage facility located near Pearl Harbor this year. The aviation fuel stored in the underground oil depot leaked last year and penetrated into the Pearl Harbor Base and its surrounding areas. The U.S. Department of Defense requires that it will complete the fuel transfer operation of Hongshan oil depot in July 2024.
