In 2013, Cui Yuxi, director of Guangdong, recorded the two Yao old people in his first film "The Furnace "-- At that time, the 79 -year -old Tang Wusangong and the 81 -year -old Tang Da Shi's love and daily life. In October 2018, "The Furnace" won the special recommendation award at the 34th Warsaw International Film Festival Documentary Contest. At the meeting, the reporter from Yangcheng Evening News was informed that "The Furnace" is expected to be released within the year to meet the audience.

In the view of director Cui Yuxi, "The Furnace" is actually not a pure documentary, but a plot film shot by a documentary method. However, the plot displayed in the film basically happened in the life of the protagonist: the young people went down the mountain to make a living, and the Tang Wu San Gong and Tang Grand Food on the mountain depended on each other. In Nangang Village at an altitude of 800 meters, Cui Yuxi and his team lived with local villagers for more than a year. , Clothing, festivals and other cultural arts and living customs. During the film shooting in 2013, this ancient village with a history of more than 1,000 years and more than 7,000 people lived in only dozens of elderly people who loved their hometown. But now, with the support of the government, this famous Chinese historical and cultural village has restored the glory of the past.

Recently, a reporter from Yangcheng Evening News interviewed the director Cui Yuxi exclusively and listened to the story of the ancient Chinese villages behind "The Wood".

Make a movie up the mountain, live with the villagers

Yangcheng Evening News: Why did you want to shoot the story of Millennium Yaozhai?

Cui Yuxi: In fact, we only had a very simple idea at first, which was to shoot an ancient village that gradually changed in modern development. I like photography. I have been to many places when I was young. I found that some of the original ancient villages, or no one, or was transformed as omnipotient. I was very heartbroken and wanted to leave something with movies.

Yangcheng Evening News: In the end, how did you settle this place in Nangang Village?

Cui Yuxi: We have been driving for several months. Yunnan, Guizhou, and Hunan have been there. They found that they were preserved best here. In fact, in 2003, I went to Nangang Village. At that time, I went to poverty alleviation with friends in Shenzhen. For calculating, it has been 10 years after I really filmed a movie there.

Yangcheng Evening News: In that 10 years, did Nangang Village change greatly?

Cui Yuxi: At that time, a big change was found that people became less. When we went in 2003, there were one or two hundred people in the village. When we were shooting in 2013, many young people went down the mountain. There were less than 30 people on the mountain, and they were basically elderly people.

Yangcheng Evening News: During the shooting, do you and the team live on the mountain?

Cui Yuxi: Yes, we live with the villagers -things on the mountain are particularly delicious! (laugh)

I don't understand each other, it's harder than shooting outsiders

Yangcheng Evening News: There are two protagonists in the story, one is Tang Wu San Gong, and the other is Tang Daisao. Why did you choose them?

Cui Yuxi: The reason is particularly simple, because the people who stayed on the mountain at that time were the only pair. When they were young, they were considered to be a bamboo horse, but they did not really come together until they were old. Before that, the two had three marriages for various reasons.

Yangcheng Evening News: Do you know these specific stories before shooting?

Cui Yuxi: Unclear, they all sang themselves during the shooting, and we only knew so many details. For example, each of them has a biological daughter, but they rarely come back in the field, so the two elderly people are dependent on each other.

Yangcheng Evening News: The characters in the film are all spoken in Yao. You should not understand. How can you master the scene shooting?

Cui Yuxi: Not only do we understand what they say, but they do not understand what we say. Our team has a local outline. We all take good materials first. After returning, we have roughly translated the content of their speaking and singing. We see if we can use it and how to use it. Many times the material is not appropriate, and I have to go back to re -shoot.

Yangcheng Evening News: What does it mainly mean?

Cui Yuxi: One is that the mood is wrong.

Yangcheng Evening News: Will the shooting cycle become long?

Cui Yuxi: Yes, it is almost harder than shooting foreign spoken films! (Laughs) We have taken a total of three stages, and the crew has lived in the village for more than a year. After the filming, the editing and post -cutting, cutting more than 20 versions, all completed in 2016.

Those lines, the best screenwriter can't write

Yangcheng Evening News: This movie feels like a documentary, but it is actually not a documentary, which is quite special.

Cui Yuxi: Yes, the story in it is true, but it is not a documentary. For example, Tang Da's most concerned nephew died suddenly, which happened before we started shooting. We later re -restored the story of Tang Da's food mother from knowing the news to participating in the funeral, but the funeral was the funeral of another local person.

Yangcheng Evening News: There are also weddings held in the mountains.

Cui Yuxi: Yes, these are not specially arranged for our play. In fact, the lives of ordinary people are those who are married, children are born, and old people die. During our shooting, we experienced several weddings and funerals.

Yangcheng Evening News: Although it is not a documentary, you can't write the lines to let the old people read like filming a story film.

Cui Yuxi: Yes, we can't control, nor do we want to control the old people, because the best screenwriters can't compile such lines. But I will tell them what is about which aspect. For example, the two elderly people will talk about their past experiences in the conversation. This paragraph is actually an explanation with the audience.

Yangcheng Evening News: How long did you spend to make them get used to the shots of the crew?

Cui Yuxi: Soon, I get used to it in about a week. In fact, compared with shooting professional actors, I will feel more comfortable to shoot them. Because professional actors are too personal, but sometimes have a sense of trace of unreal people to performance.

Yangcheng Evening News: Is there any scene that you specifically designed for them?

Cui Yuxi: Only the last scene was designed by the last scene, that is, Tang Huosheng's big food girl returned from the mountain with the grandson who was just born from the mountain, and happened to pass by Tang Da Shi, who had just lost his nephew.

Yangcheng Evening News: The scene in this film is very beautiful. For example, the things in the room look very storytelling, and the outdoor scene is like a fairyland.

Cui Yuxi: I use movies instead of documentary standards to ask for photography, art, lighting and even recording. For example, I will ask the indoor effect to shoot like oil paintings. The light is not so bright, but it is very textured. But the outdoor scenery, I will ask it to be like the ink of Chinese painting, so you will see a large number of clouds lingering shots in the movie.

Yangcheng Evening News: Isn't it easy for the cooperation of nature?

Cui Yuxi: Yes, we mainly rely on shooting rather than later, so every time we see suitable weather changes, we immediately started construction.

Yangcheng Evening News: There is a shot in the film that is particularly beautiful. How long did it take?

Cui Yuxi: We took a month in that starry sky and started shooting every day. Although it takes time, it is worth it because it can express the feeling of time we want to say.

Yangcheng Evening News: In the movie, many of the exchanges between Tang Wusan and Tang Da Shi, many of them were carried out through Yao Ge, are they improvisation creation?

Cui Yuxi: Yes, they are all their own impromptu. We all marked the creators to these songs in the end of the film. The several capitals were originals of Tang Wusan and Tang Da Food. We use the creation of professional musicians. Among them, the theme music is the famous "Yao Dance", and the rest are mostly created from the local folk songs.

Yangcheng Evening News: Which of the old people improvisation created by the old people, which one is the most impressive?

Cui Yuxi: Tang Daidao cried and sang his nephew. The scene was completely born with her emotions. At that time, there was a heavy rain outside, and the whole scene moved me.

Yangcheng Evening News: It has been almost 10 years since the movie started in 2013, and it should have changed a lot in the local area?

Cui Yuxi: Yes, the change is very large, and the government has given great support for the local area. When we were shooting, the mountains were building the road down the mountain. Now Nangang Village has become a well -known tourist area, and young people have returned one after another.

Yangcheng Evening News: What is the recent situation of Tang Wu San Gong and Tang Da Food?

Cui Yuxi: When we filmed in 2013, the old grandfather was 79 years old and the grandmother was 81 years old. A while ago, a friend had seen our samples and went to visit them specifically. I heard that the two elderly people were healthy, and their mental state was much better than the original.

Yangcheng Evening News: This film has left a time for Nangang Village.

Cui Yuxi: People in Nangang Village were first migrated from the north 1400 years ago. In history, more than 7,000 people lived here, once brilliant. When we were shooting, the local elderly also inherited many traditional culture, including the long drum dancing of the Sangong of the Tang Wu, which was a national intangible cultural heritage. We also showed how he was a long drum in the film.

Yangcheng Evening News: This movie has a good response in the industry, but do you want it to be seen by more ordinary audiences?

Cui Yuxi: Yes, I have always felt that I am lucky and encountered such a good place, such a good person. I think I am a recorder of an image. I hope that this film can let more audiences see after the release. But in fact, when I first filmed this film, it was to fulfill my movie dream.

Yangcheng Evening News: This is your first movie. I heard that some members in the team were your classmates when you were studying at the Beijing Film Academy, including photography guidance Chen Li.

Cui Yuxi: I first played photography. In 2008, I went to the Department of Photography of the Beijing Film Academy for study, and later went to the screenwriter and director department to study.Chen Li is the classmate of my director department.
