On September 21, a study published by British scientists in the "Clinical Medicine" of "Liuye Knife" showed that in the past few years or even decades before the memory and thinking problems of dementia, nightmares may have It has become very common.

According to the study of the University of Birmingham, middle -aged people who often have nightmares are more likely to be diagnosed with dementia in their later years.

"We proved for the first time that the painful dreams or nightmares were related to the decline in the risk and cognitive ability of dementia in general healthy adults."

OTAIKU said that this conclusion is important because there are few risk indicators to suffer from dementia that can be recognized at middle age.

"Although more work is needed to determine these connections, we believe that nightmares may be a useful way to identify high -risk people of dementia. Imaging as soon as possible to help take measures as soon as possible to slow the disease."

The team studied data from 3 community queues in the United States, including men and women between 35 and 64 years old; 2600 elderly people aged 79 and over.

All participants did not have dementia at the beginning of the study. The average follow -up of the young group was 9 years and the average follow -up of the elderly group was 5 years.

Participants have completed a series of questionnaires, including Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index, which involves the problem of a nightmare frequency of individuals.

The study collected data from 2002 to 2012. Researchers use statistical software to analyze data to understand whether participants with higher nightmare frequency are more likely to experience decline in cognitive ability and be diagnosed as dementia.

Studies have shown that in the next 10 years, the possibility of a decrease in the cognitive ability of middle -aged people (35 to 64) who has a nightmare (35 to 64 years old) is 4 times that of normal people, and the possibilities of the elderly are diagnosed as dementia. Sex is twice the ordinary people.

This study also found that this correlation is more intense among men. For example, the possibility of dementia with dementia that do nightmares every week is 5 times that of no nightmares. The risk of women is only 41%.

The next study includes investigating whether the nightmare of young people is related to the risk of dementia in the future, as well as other characteristics of dreams. If people remember the frequency of dreams and the vividness of dreams, it can also be used to determine the risk of dementia.

Using EEG and magnetic resonance imaging, researchers also plan to investigate the biological basis of healthy people and dementia patients.
