According to CNN, on the evening of September 20, local time, the police claimed that the Washington Monument was destroyed and was briefly closed, and a man was detained for suspected damage to the monument.

The American Park Police Department (USPP) wrote on Twitter: "The area around the Washington Monument Base is temporarily closed. The US Park Police Department detained an adult man due to destroying public property."

The picture shows that the west side of the monument base is coated with a large red paint and the English words with red paint and graffiti.Police said the man wrote "blasphemy information" at the bottom of the monument.

The Washington Monument is a iconic building located on the National Square. Between Lincoln Memorial and Congress Building, 550 feet is completed in 1888.

According to reports, the administrator of the National Park Administration will be responsible for cleaning the paint.Park police are currently not sure whether temporary closure will affect public visits.
