The main reason for the significant decline in the number of divorce is the implementation of the system of divorce and calm period. In order to implement the "People's Republic of China Code", which was implemented from January 1, 2021, the Civil Affairs Code of the People's Republic of China adjusted the marriage registration procedure and added a "divorce calm period" to the divorce process. Within 30 days after the expiration of the demeanor and calm period, if the two parties have not jointly applied to the marriage registration authority to apply for a divorce certificate, they are deemed to have withdrawn the application for divorce registration.
