Because of the unable to find an alternative, the Hague City Council requested that the government allows the government to extend a contract with Gazprom, a Russian state natural gas supplier.

The Energy Minister Rob Jetten ordered all the municipal authorities to terminate the contract with the company's subsidiary Gazprom Energy, a subsidiary registered in the Netherlands by October 10. However, Hague said that the bidding project has not found a suitable substitute so far and cannot catch up with the government's last period. It has now required to exempt the implementation of Russian energy sanctions before January 1.

It is estimated that about 120 Dutch local parliaments are still looking for alternatives of Gazprom Energy. The sharp rise in prices makes this task more challenging.

Jetten said on Friday that he expects that local authorities will abide by the final period, even if this means that the cost of natural gas this winter will soar.

He added that sanctions still allow European countries to import 10%of natural gas from Russia, and Russia currently supply about 15%of natural gas demand in the Netherlands.

Income flow into Germany

Gazprom Energy is one of the many European subsidiaries under Gazprom Germania. The company was managed by the German government for a long time in May and renamed the Securing Energy for Europe after breaking the relationship with the Russian company.

As a result, its income flows to the German government rather than Moscow, but Jetten expressed doubts about whether it is independent of Russia.

Analysts told Nieuwsuur that Jetten terminated the requirements of contracts with the Gazprom Energy. Many substitute suppliers still purchased natural gas from Russia and will collect the price higher than the committee's current payment.
