Liu Yueming recalled that at that time, the technical staff of the Guangzhou Forestry and Gardening Bureau organized technicians to study the greening of the overpass and began to explore the greening technology of the flyover.

The first question is what varieties of flowers are planted by the bridge? Liu Yueming introduced that after a series of inspections, he found that it was not that simple to plant greening on the bridge. "The environment on the bridge is relatively harsh, such as small planting space, large car tail gas, sun exposure, high temperature, etc. So what kind of plant varieties to choose are very important. It must be strong resistance, high temperature resistance, sweat resistance, trimming, and sagging branches. "

At the beginning, Liu Yueming's team chose 36 varieties such as Le Rhododendron, Ma Yantan, and Dragon Boat Flowers. It was planted with loess on the Dongfeng Road and Huanshi Pathfuni Bridge and drizzled with water vehicles. As a result, many varieties are not ideal, some drooping, some are not resistant to trimming, some are not resistant to high temperature, some of them fall off the leaves in winter, and after three consecutive years of observation, only Le Dujuan varieties performed slightly. As a result, Le Du Juan was initially selected as the green variety of Guangzhou flyover.

Although the species of Le Dujuan are selected, the growth and flowering effect of Le Duju are not very satisfied. It is OK in summer and autumn, and the leaves will fall off in winter or rainy days. In order to deal with the leaves trimmed by greening, Liu Yueming thought about turning it into a treasure, and piled up organic fertilizer as the greening matrix of the flyover. "After repeated experiments and practice, we used green waste to develop the special matrix of the greening of the sky bridge. Since the use of this dedicated substrate, Le Du Juan has grown strong and leafy. When the leaves are dropped, the bridge is full of flowers when blooming. "Liu Yueming said.

Prior to 2013, more than 95%of the species on the Cuckoo on the flyover of Guangzhou were purple flowers, and only a small amount of water red Lezhua cuckoo variety. Purple flower cuckoo only blooms once a year, and the amount of flowers is not much. The water red Lezhuari is easy to drop the leaves on the rainy days. Liu Yueming continues to work hard on the variety.

Since then, Liu Yueming has established a cuckoo resource garden, collecting Lezhua varieties from Yunnan, Hainan, Fujian, Guangxi, and Pearl River Delta. Now there are 400 varieties. Slowly, there are 15 new varieties of La Du Cuckoo with rose red, golden hearts, and silver -edged purple flowers in Guangzhou on the bridge.

In order to control the flowering of Rizhua cuckoo, Liu Yueming led the team to try to control water and regulate nutrients. After trimming and hormone treatment techniques, through continuous testing, La Rao's flowering technology was mastered.
