The results of the second national tree famous tree resource census results announced more than 5.08 million ancient trees

The famous trees are precious heritage left by nature and predecessors. They are treasures of forest resources. They are cultural relics of life. They have important ecology, history, culture, science, landscape and economic value.

On September 9th, the National Greening Commission Office, the Ministry of Housing and Urban -Rural Development, and the National Forestry and Cao Bureau jointly held a press conference on the national land greening planning outline and ancient tree resource resource census.

At the above conference, Zhang Wei, the director of the National Forestry and Grassland Bureau Ecological Protection and Repairing Division (National Greening Committee Office), introduced the situation related to the results of the second national ancient tree resource census. He said that in April 2015, the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and the State Council issued the "Opinions on Accelerating the Construction of Ecological Civilization" and requested "effectively protecting the rare endangered wildlife, ancient trees and natural habitats." In 2019, the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress revised the "Forest Law", listed the protection of ancient trees as a special terms, and became a milestone in the country to protect the ancient trees in accordance with the law.

It is understood that in 2001, the Office of the National Greening Commission organized the first national census of ancient trees in the country. Beginning in 2015, in order to further understand the distribution and protection management of ancient trees nationwide and scientifically guidance and promotion of protection, the National Greening Commission organized a second -time ancient tree resource survey throughout the country. In October 2020, after more than 5 years of foreign industry surveys, data finishing and special surveys, and two rounds of data review, the census results report was formed. At the end of 2020, the Green Commission organized experts to review and demonstrate the report of the census results. The expert group agreed that the census data was true and credible, which basically reflected the current status of ancient trees in my country.

Zhang Wei pointed out that the results of the census showed that there were 5.819 million ancient trees in the country's census, including 1.2213 million and 3.8606 million groups. Among the ancient trees of Sansheng, 121.4865 million ancient trees, 5235 famous trees, and 1186 ancient trees and 1186 famous trees; group -shaped ancient trees were distributed in 18,585 ancient trees. There are 246,600 plants distributed in cities, and 4.8353 million are distributed in the countryside.
