A international team led by scientists in the University of London, UK, published a paper on "Nature · Cell Biology" that they have discovered a new mechanism that can slow down or even prevent the natural aging of immune cells -this is the nine nine signs of aging one. Researchers believe that the use of this mechanism can extend the life of the immune system, allow people to live healthier and longer, and also have clinical practical value for treating diseases such as cancer and dementia.

Dr. Alecio Lanner, the main author of the research papers and a honorary professor at the Department of Medicine at the University of London, said that immune cells have been in a high degree of alertness and are ready to fight with pathogens at any time. Their "combat status" lasted for decades, but the mechanism to maintain this lifelong protection was largely unknown.

In T cells, with each cell division, the telomere has become shorter and shorter (telometer wear). Once the telomeres are short to a certain extent, the cells stop splitting and starting aging. This is mainly reflected in the immune system. As the immune system is no longer effective, it will lead to chronic infection, cancer and death. Telomers are considered one of the "aging signs".

In this study, researchers started the immune response of T lymphocytes to microorganisms (foreign infections) in vitro. Unexpectedly, they observed the telometer metastases between two types of white blood cells in the extracellular bauxis (small particles promoted inter -cell communication). A antigen presents cells (APC), which consists of B cells, dendritic cells or macrophages as a telometer supplier, and acts on T lymphocytes (telomere receptor cells). After the telomere metastasis, the receptor T cells become longevity and have memory and stem cell attributes, enabling T cells to protect the host from being fatal infected for a long time.

Professor Lanner explained that the telometer metastases between immune cells show that cells can exchange telomeres before the start of the telomerase, as a way to regulate chromosomal length. "It is possible to delay or cure aging by transferring telomeres."

After discovering a new anti -aging mechanism, the research team confirmed that the extracellular puff of the telomere cells can be purified from the blood. When it is added to T cells, anti -aging activity can be presented in the immune system of human and mice. Studies have also found that the "telometer" transfer reaction can be promoted directly in cells.
