At 9 pm on September 22, the Chinese Embassy in Cambodia received a report from the Cambodian Police General Administration that a shipwreck accident occurred in the waters of Sihanouk, and 41 Chinese citizens were equipped on the ship, of which 18 were rescued and properly resettled. The remaining 23 people disappeared, and two Cambodian crews were arrested. According to the rescued personnel, the staff on board departed from Guangzhou on September 11, and soon after arriving in the Western Port Sea, they encountered danger.

After receiving the notification, the Embassy in Cambodia attached great importance to it, and immediately launched the emergency work mechanism and set up a special class. Ambassador Wang Wentian deployed the Cambodian Ministry of Defense, the General Administration of Police, and the Sihanouk Provincial Government and other departments, asking Cambodia to take the saving person as the first priority and use all forces and means to conduct search and rescue. Li Jiezan and Consul General rushed to West Port overnight to coordinate the relevant rescue operations.

On the morning of the 23rd, Guo Zongren, the governor of the West Provincial Provincial Governor, praised Li Jie and the Consul General of our museum and reported the latest progress in search and rescue work. Guo said that after the accident, the Cambodian Ministry of Defense, the General Administration of Police, and the Western Provincial Government made every effort to carry out rescue work. As of 12 noon on the 23rd, one water dropper was successfully rescued, and a dead body of the victims was salvaged. Guo emphasized that search and rescue work is still continuing. In order to mobilize social forces to participate in the rescue, the Western Government issued a notice to fishermen nearby, and each rescued by a water drop was rewarded for $ 500.
