The School of Energy originated from the Department of Mining and Metallurgy of the Northwestern Institute of Technology in 1938. The history of running a school can be traced back to the mining and metallurgical department of Beiyang University Institute of Technology in 1895. It was renamed the Department of Mining Engineering in 1952, merged into Xi'an Jiaotong University in 1957, established the Department of Mining Engineering of Xi'an Academy in 1958, was renamed the Department of Resources Development and Management Engineering in 1994.
