Original understanding

The non -rechargeable batteries we use now are usually alkaline batteries, which have the advantages of large battery capacity and long discharge time. Taking alkaline zinc manganese batteries as an example, its anode is zinc (Zn), cathode is manganese dioxide (MNO2), and the electrolyte is sodium hydroxide (NAOH) or potassium hydroxide (KOH).

The anode of the zinc -manganese battery is a gel -like substance containing zinc powder. It absorbs the impact performance better when falling, so it is not easy to play.

When the alkaline battery is discharged, the anode is oxidized to ZNO, as shown in the formula (1) and (2)

Formula (1) shows that the battery will generate Zn (OH) 42- in the solution until the electrolyte is too saturated, and it will start to precipitate to ZNO.

Zinc anode becomes a more dense solid, and it is not easy to deform, so it will be easier to play when it falls. (It can be analogized to become born eggs and cooked eggs. When the same force is applied, cooked eggs turn faster)

So the height of the bounce depends on the oxidation level of the zinc anode.

The following figure shows that the anode scanning electronic microscope imaging is enlarged ten times before and after discharge.
